A Little Preface to Florida’s Newest News Source
The Florida Pilot: I guess it’s fitting to announce this on this Independence Day weekend, on the eve of the land fall of a named storm, Elsa. Before anybody Google’s it, how many of you know the significance of the name “Elsa”? Elsa was the star of one of the most touching, moving, and significant movies ever made. Elsa was the rescued lioness who starred in the incredible movie “Born Free”. So, we are getting hit, on this Independence Day weekend (close enough), by a storm who’s namesake was the star on Born Free. Wow, brain wrapping in process. But this is not my announcement.
This has something to do with my personal freedom. I needed a voice. I needed my own voice. I have so many stories to tell. There are so many stories out there to share.
Believe it, or not, there was a finite time in history – not ALL that long ago – where you could literally know everything (Google it). It was before electronic communications, before the Industrial Revolution, before the galvanizing of mankind. It was possible to literally know everything. How times have changed with the introduction of the sharable electron. Now we have supercomputers in Utah (the 1.5 million square foot NSA Data Center) that are half-again larger than the largest Amazon warehouse. To hold what? Information. Baby, we’ve come a long way.
So, what does this have to do with anything I want to announce?
There are information providers out there, filters, that pluck minuscule amounts of information from this unimaginable ocean of data and present it in an objective, enjoyable, and understandable venue. These providers used to be known as the “news media”. And then the (objective) “news media” evolved to become so agenda riddled that one could even go so far as to say it had cancer. A cancer that, now, permeates to every man, woman, and child in this country. In the world.
My announcement is more of a promise. I have created this news agency, The Florida Pilot (TFP). And my promise to you, world, is to be honest to a fault, and that my course NEVER be guided by ANYTHING other than the need to know. There is a lot to tell and I wish I were younger so I had more time to tell it.
The Florida Pilot will focus on Florida and Florida Aviation News. At this point, this will be the primary focus. I’ve lived in Florida for more than twenty years and I’ve come to learn a lot about this diverse, complex state. There are more stories waiting to be told here than, arguably, any other state. That being said, I will bow and give California and Texas their due.
At TFP we are in our infancy. Right now our site is very basic. It is in its foundation stages. This is from where we will grow. I am looking for contributors. There is nothing that I am afraid to report on. I would rather steer toward controversy than away from it. I have one basic creed: verifiable, honest, facts. And, trust me, information provided to me for a story will be verified.
